The Best Climbing Gyms in Dallas

Movement is a well-established group of climbing gyms in Dallas. In addition, there are Movement climbing gyms all across the country, which is a big bonus for those who travel. If you have a membership with Movement at one location, you have access to every gym in the country. Movement has six locations in North Texas. In central Dallas, The Hill location only offers bouldering. However, their brand-new location in the Design District provides opportunities for bouldering, top rope, and lead climbing.

First on the list, Movement is a great climbing gym for beginners because they offer beginners courses for every climbing style. Bouldering, top-rope, lead – you can learn it all with their intro classes and group events! In addition, they provide rental gear, which makes it easy to climbing even when you haven’t bought your own climbing shoes or harness yet.

Best Budget Climbing Gym

Climbing Types: bouldering, top rope
Price: $12/day pass, $70/month, $480/year
Location: Arlington
Other Activities: youth climbing camps

Located in Arlington, a bit to the west of central Dallas, Dyno-Rock provides 16,000 square feet of indoor climbing. They also have kids climbing camps and other family-friendly events, which makes sense for their relatively suburban location. However, they have also put on BYOB and other fun climbing events in the past. This is (by far) your best gym for sticking to a budget. Not only are their prices about half of what the other gyms ask, but they also offer a ton of seasonal deals.

Best Bouldering Gym

Climbing Types: bouldering
Price: $20/day pass, $85/month, $850/year
Location: Design District
Other Activities: yoga/fitness classes, cardio, weight training, sauna

Before being purchased by Bouldering Project, Oso Climbing Gyms was the newest bouldering climbing gym in Dallas. For three years, it built a small (but thriving) community in the Design District. It’s also one of the nicest climbing gyms I have ever seen. The gym is designed to be bright and welcoming. The large windows bring in a lot of natural sunlight, while the light aesthetic makes it a refreshing place to be. The lofted seating area (with a bar) and back patio make for easy opportunities to socialize or study.

Now that Oso’s been purchased and integrated into Bouldering Project, it should be even better for people who travel across the United States. By having a membership at the Dallas location, you’ll also be able to use that membership at all of their other locations. Bouldering Project also has gyms in Austin, Boston, Brooklyn, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Seattle, and Washington, DC.

Best Climbing Gym for Families

Climbing Types: bouldering, top rope, lead
Price: $18/day pass, $55/month, $550/year
Location: Frisco
Other Activities: yoga/fitness classes, youth climbing team, special events

A climbing gym north of Dallas, Canyons Rock Climbing offers a ton of family-friendly activities and events. They host the Lonestar climbing team and have other youth programs (such as the Spring Break Climbing Camp) as well. What’s more, you can schedule special events for your children at Canyons Rock – they do birthdays, overnight lock-ins, and large group events that you can book online.

The routes and classes at Canyons are designed to prepare you to climb and adventure outdoors. You can immediately tell that the staff is committed to making you feel welcome and providing a fun way to stay active. Overall, Canyons seems to be a well-rounded environment for your family to grow in your climbing skills and find community. Canyons also ranks first when it comes to month-to-month pricing – check out their rates above.

Best Multipurpose Gym

Climbing Types: bouldering, top rope
Price: $40/day pass, $179/month, $2,148/year
Location: Highland Park
Other Activities: climbing, weight training, cardio, cycle, yoga, pilates, barre, sauna, pickleball, basketball, and more.

Last on this list, Life Time is a chain of health clubs located all over the United States and Canada. They do not focus primarily on rock climbing, but if you want access to dozens of sports and workout classes, Life Time definitely provides the widest variety of exercise options. When it comes to climbing, Life Time offers an easy introduction to the sport. This luxurious, country-club-style gym provides group fitness classes, personal training, and even a cafe.

Equally important is the quality of climbing available at this gym. Honestly, the other climbing gyms are much more likely to provide an all-encompassing climbing experience. But if you want access to anything AND everything a gym could offer – this is the place for you.
