32 Degrees’ Best Apparel for Your Next Outdoor Adventure

Alternative title: the outdoor adventure clothing I wear for all of my hiking/camping trips. The cost for these items range from under $4 to just over $37. I have worn most of these items for multiple years without them wearing out, so I’m thrilled to share my favorites with you. I split the products into two categories: items ideal for hiking and items ideal for camping.

Ready to Hike

ultra-light down packable 3/4 jacket: This jacket is ideal for any outdoor adventure where you want to pack light. It packs easily into the packable pouch (that you need to buy separately). It’s filled with down which makes it more lightweight and warmer than many other jackets. Down requires more care when cleaning and packing, so keep that in mind! For a down jacket designed for the outdoors, the price is really great. I found it quite affordable, especially since my old hiking jacket was over twice the cost.

32 Degrees makes this jacket in so many amazing colors (I love the light blue, forest-y green, and rose-colored options). Initially, I asked for the jacket in black, but now I’m hoping I can get it in blue or red as well. They’re super cute, and it’s also just better to wear a bright color when hiking! The jacket is so affordable that as long as I can justify buying another jacket, I will.

Other things I love about this jacket:

  • zip-off hood
  • side pocket zippers
  • tag-free labels (no risk of itching!)

lightweight baselayer scoop top: How is this top so affordable??? I have no idea. I’ve been wearing this top for years now, not only in the outdoors but also to work, hanging out with friends, and basically everywhere. I used to only have this top in black and grey, but their green, blue and wine-colored options have been calling out to me recently. I love how the scoop-neck style shows off my shoulders, and the material is thin, but not see-through.

These tops are moisture-wicking and perfect for any outdoor adventure activity. Like most of 32 Degrees’ products, they have tag-free labels, which means no itching and no risk of the tag sticking out at all. Most high-quality hiking clothes are either made with affordable synthetic materials (like this 32 Degrees gear) or more expensive natural fibers. When I’ve gone hiking in this top in cold weather, I almost never need a jacket after I get warmed up. This top is amazing at keeping you warm and dry at the same time – the most important qualities for any hiking apparel.

lightweight baselayer mock top: I dearly hope this top stays popular, because I need it in every color. Mock-neck tops are so cute (they’re like turtlenecks, but way less fuss), and 32 Degrees does it right. They have this top in black, white, grey, and IRISES and I’m in love with this purple color. Every time I wear it (which is about once a week, either running or at work) I get compliments from literal strangers. The mock tops are the same material and fit as the scoop tops, except for the neckline (of course). They’re also insanely affordable (the same price as the scoop top) and super soft.

Other things I love about both baselayer tops:

  • anti-static (static in my clothing is a huge pet peeve of mine)
  • fitted (but not too tight)
  • incredibly soft
  • very thin and easy to pack for any trip

lightweight baselayer legging: I like to wear these leggings anytime I’m hiking in cold or wet weather. I always layer them underneath my hiking pants. I’m fairly tall (5’8″) and these leggings still have a bit of length left at my ankles. In addition, they are high-waisted, which means there will be no heat leaking out from your waist all the way down to your socks.

I also love these leggings because they’re super soft and thin, so you don’t notice them when you’re hiking. If anything, they provide a cozy barrier between you and your hiking pants, which are usually not as soft. They’re the same price at the baselayer tops, which is extremely affordable. Most other outdoor adventure brands will be charging $20-$100 for a single pair of baselayer leggings/long underwear, so if I get 3 pairs for $21, two of them are basically free, right? That’s how it feels to me.

Other things I love about the baselayer leggings:

  • All of the baselayer items are made with the same materials, which makes them soft and surprisingly durable. I have worn the same scoop neck top on at least 15 trips in the past year and a half, and so far there is NO sign of wear. No pilling, no tears, and no fading.

rib knit beanie: Less than $5.00. Need I say more? The quality of this beanie gives no indication that it could be so affordable. It’s a really nice, soft material and I wear it while hiking and at the campground. One thing I appreciate about 32 Degrees and their color choices is that every product fits into the same color scheme. The rib knit beanie comes in dark blue, green, red, purple, grey and black – so of course, I got the green one to match my new favorite scoop top. It’s thick enough to keep me warm (but not sweaty). 32 Degrees also sells an ultra-warm lined beanie, but I prefer to have a bit more stretch (and less layers).

Cozy at the Campsite

shorthair sherpa 1/4 zip top: Usually, I hate any fuzzy clothing because they tend to build up a ton of static electricity. This quarter-zip top did not! I’m not sure how it works, but I wore this cozy jacket while tent camping, and I never had to deal with annoying static-induced frizz. This pullover is fuzzy both on the inside and out. You may think that something this fuzzy would be very thick, but this outdoor adventure top is unexpectedly thin and easy to pack in a backpack/carry-on.

For such an affordable price, I find the quality hard to believe. When shopping for fleece or faux-shearling items, it’s hard to find affordable pieces that will also avoid static buildup. If you like any of 32 Degrees’ other sherpa-lined products, this 1/4 zip top definitely deserves to be your next purchase.

Other things I love about this 1/4 zip top:

  • mock neckline (very cozy)
  • color-matching zipper pull

heavyweight fleece baselayer legging: Unlike the ultralight version, these leggings can be worn on their own. You won’t need a second layer unless you’re sitting outside in below-freezing weather. The fleece lining make the leggings way cozier and softer than what I’m used to camping in, which was a pleasant surprise. When you’re camping outside, it’s important to be able to stay warm while you’re sleeping. Usually, I use a sleeping bag liner for additional warmth. With these leggings on, I didn’t need the liner at all.

I thought that these leggings would be more expensive than the ultralight version, because of the added fleeced lining. Amazingly, they’re the same price and very affordable. Compared to other fleece-lined options online, there’s not another brand out there that can compete with prices. If you’re worried about the dryness of the fleece, don’t be – the leggings are also anti-static.

thermal comfort crew socks: These socks are the other reason why I didn’t need a sleeping bag to keep me warm at camp. It’s best practice to change into a new pair of socks when you finish hiking, and these thermal comfort crew socks are great for camp. You can (somehow) buy four pairs of socks for the same price as one pair of 32 Degrees leggings – which is really affordable. I also love to wear these socks around the house at home, and in the car on the way home after a day hike.

Other things I love about these socks:

  • anti-pilling
  • very thick, soft, and warm

fleece-lined sherpa wearable blanket: This blanket is one of those outdoor adventure items that I will always bring on a trip if I have room for it. I used it most recently on my camping trip, but never put it away when I got back home. Recently, I’ve been wearing it around the house – I love that you don’t need hands to keep it around your shoulders. This blanket has three sets of buttons you can use to fasten it around your neck like a poncho. It reminds me of the Snuggie, but for anyone who wants to keep their freedom of movement. I’d like to bring it on my next airplane trip (who doesn’t want a blanket while flying?).

Again, I absolutely love the colors available for this product online. I have it in the color Night Sky, and I’m getting the purple option for my mother for Christmas. It’s shocking to me that this blanket is so high-quality, yet still so affordable. Honestly, you could get one for every family member, and it’s a really unique gift!

Other things I love about this blanket:

  • two-way convertability
  • fleece-lined
  • gives off half-cloak vibes
